July is almost over? Ju-lying! As hard as that is to believe, believing that August will be the bearer of even more great food and festivals is not.
Whether you’re getting your (coffee) grind on a Espresso Martini Festival, or discovering the wonderful world of edible cooking dough (and realizing that the cookie dough you’ve been eating your whole life is out to get you), you’re in for a pretty good month.
# 1 Espresso Martini Festival | South Brisbane
Get ready to escape the daily grind, and espresso yourself at Brisbane’s own Espresso Martini Festival. Held both the day before and the day of EKKA (August 15-16), you’ll get to sip on all the brews and balance out your buzz with sublime eats. Brewtiful.
#2 Japanese Festival | West End
It’s time to let your love for Japan (cherry) blossom. West Village is set to become a Japanese village on August 19, complete with bonsai trees, origami workshops and all the karrage and sushi donuts you can possibly handle (hai!).
#3 Breakfast Puffle | Southside Bistro | Sunnybank
We’re pretty glad that although it sounds like a smol fluffy animal, it’s definitely not. A puffle is a Hong Kong egg waffle – and Southside Bistro has topped theirs with pork floss, oolong tea eggs, homemade pickles, steamed rice, and deep fried youtiao. We’ve been waiting oolong time for something this good – the new menu launches this month!
#4 The Drawing Room | The Gresham | CBD
Rather than going back to the drawing board, you’ll be going back to The Drawing Room for expertly crafted cocktails. The Gresham is crafting a new bar that exudes old world charm – complete with the novelty of getting to ring a doorbell for entry.
#5 Gelato Masterclass | Gelato Messina | South Brisbane
Here’s the scoop – you’ll get to try 40 Messina flavours, eat a four course degustation, and learn all the secrets to nailing gelato making at the Gelato Messina Masterclass. Oh, and you get to take a 500ml tub of gelato home on top of all of that. What’s cooler than being cool? Ice cold (gelato)!
#6 Gnocchi Night | Ristorante La Famiglia | Woolloongabba
Ristorante La Famiglia is dishing up gnocchi night every Tuesday night. Their gnocchi is hand made fresh every morning, with flavours such as pesto parmesan, and their signature pork Bolognese. No need to go gnocchin’ on their door too early, there’ll be plenty for everyone (but we recommend booking ahead if you can!)
#7 Tapas Tasting Board | Peasant | Petrie Terrace
Cheese boards are cute, but tapas boards are where it’s at. Peasant is serving tapas boards from Sunday to Thursday, stacked with all your Spanish favourites, including empanadas, croquettes and chorizo. Get on board.
#8 Edible Cookie Dough | Doughy | Eagle Farm
…Because cookie dough from the store can kill you, apparently? (we’ll still eat it anyway). Just to be safe, Doughy will keep you nice and alive with their edible cookie dough, currently available in vegan choc chip, and vanilla with sprinkles and mini M&M’s. They’ll be hitting up the Eagle Farm Markets this month, dough-not miss out.
#9 Nutella Pizza | Vapiano | CBD
This might be the most gorgeous food baby we have ever seen. Albert Lane’s Vapiano is serving the dessert pizza from our wildest food dreams, but only as a winter special. Basically, get in before you miss a pizza this Nutella, strawberry and banana slice of heaven.
#10 Champagne High Tea | Nickel Kitchen & Bar | Fortitude Valley
No longer are high teas only thrilling for your grandma. Nickel’s modern twist on an old favourite will have you sipping champagne, and swapping in those cucumber sandwiches for red onion marmalade and goats cheese slice, or blini with smoked salmon mousse and caviar (they do have cucumber sandwiches as well, though).
