The Brisbane bucket list: January

Yeah, it’s January and we’re officially on the new year, new us train – for at least a week or so anyway. But everything in moderation, right? So between the green power smoothies and acai bowls, and avoiding trips to the gym, we’ll be tucking into a few of Brisbane’s tastiest eats this month.

#1. Pablo Diablo | Same Same but Different | Corinda

This breakfast has it all: haloumi, hashcakes, pulled pork, avocado, spiced fried eggs and black bean and corn salsa. It’s familiar – but a little different.

#2. Tasting menu | Umami | Fortitude Valley

Don’t make the mistake of limiting yourself to 3 or 4 dishes at Umami – not when there’s a ten course tasting menu to take advantage of for $85pp. Because who could possibly decide between Vietnamese sticky pork belly and saltbush lamb belly? No one, that’s who.

#3. Crispy chicken bao | Mr Bunz | CBD

Bao down to city hunger pains no longer – Mr Bunz has just opened up their hole-in-the-wall pitstop dishing up spicy chicken bao buns along with a few others!

#4. Baklava milkshake | Luigi’s Italian | West End

It’s not just pizza and pasta this spot dishes up – they also have some seriously epic shakes, including this sweet Greek pastry number!

#5. Vanilla pineapple margaritas | One Fifty | Ascot

You could go to One Fifty for the food – but even if you do, how better to start things off than with one of their tantalizing cocktails?

#6. Tapas | Vaquero | Albion

There’s no ordering just one plate at the new Vaquero – instead it’s all about small plates of duck liver parfait, salted manchego custard and pork terrine.

#7. Macaron ice cream sandwich | Marche du Macaron | Gordon Park

We thought macarons were already pretty damn perfect – then Marche du Macaron goes and puts ice cream between their soft, chewy macarons!

#8. Chocolate, apricot & honey waffles | Naïm | Paddington

When one of our fave cafes morphs into a new venue, that’s all the excuse we need to put them back on our must eat list, especially with the likes of these waffles with honey ice cream, chocolate gel, apricot puree, lavender marshmallow, cacao nibs and a pistachio and waffle crumble on the new menu!

#9. Cheese & charcuterie | The Long Road | New Farm

There’s a new spot for cheese and charcuterie in town – and they also have the perfect cocktails to pair them with! Build your own board then take a seat on their breezy deck with a drink (or five).

#10. Mezze platter | Little Beirut | Indooroopilly

The best introduction to Indooroopilly’s new Lebanese bistro? One of their share platters, piled high with falafel, baba ghanouj, moussaka, Lebanese bread, hommus and tabouli!
