Christmas. To some it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but to others? It’s a whole lot of mess, disorganised families and chaos. It can be a headache – but it doesn’t have to be that way. We believe you should get your Christmas lunch and eat it too, so we’ve rounded up some of our favourite places to spend Christmas – no clean up required.
TREASURY | CBD
Don’t gamble on Christmas Day being a success – for all the reward and none of the risk, book in for lunch or dinner at the Treasury. Scared of tiny fine dining portions? We’ve got two words for you: Christmas buffet. From spicy Asian bites to freshly sourced seafood delights and everything in between – we suggest clearing Boxing Day for your impending food coma.
Still keen for more? How does Mooloolaba spanner crab with avocado and pea gazpacho and veal with smoked garlic potato sound? Christmas doesn’t have to end with lunch, the Treasury wants to keep the festivities going with their two or three-course dinner options! There are few ways sweeter to end a big day than with a coconut and mandarin Bavarian after all.
SOFITEL | CBD
Thyme2s famous Christmas Day celebrations run all day, so you can get some serious feasting in – including a decadent breakfast from 6.30am. Traditionalist? Get stuck into stuffing with roast turkey breast, honey glazed ham and roasted leg of lamb. Or for the ultimate Christmas extravaganza, book your lunch in Sofitel’s opulent Ballroom Le Grand. Don’t clam up too soon – with free flowing champagne, freshly shucked oysters, chilled Moreton Bay bugs and green lip mussels on the cards you’ll need to leave room. REGATTA | TOOWONG
Nothing screams Christmas in Queensland like seafood and a water view. We might not be able to chill out on the beach (unless you feel like braving Southbank) but we’ve got the next best thing with water views from the Regatta. Start off with QLD prawns, fresh Moreton Bay bugs, smoked ocean trout and oysters before you fight your siblings over roast turkey and beef wellington. Keep the Christmas cheer going with beer, sparkling, red and white wines. For more information see their website!
From breakfast to dinner, Hilton Brisbane has all your Christmas planning wrapped up. Forget Grandma’s stale mince pies and Aunty Carol’s cracked pavlova, this is one Christmas feast that you’ll never want to end. With a menu tailored by Executive Chef Matthew Wood, start off the days festivities with a full buffet breakfast of seasonal fruits, freshly baked pastries and hot dishes. For the main event (HELLO CHRISTMAS CRACKERS!) expect assorted fresh seafood and artisanal hams, Berkshire pork chop with Granny Smith apple and pan seared beef fillet with mixed mushroom gratin… wipe that drool off the keyboard! Did we mention the dessert buffet? You’ll be as stuffed as the roast turkey by the end of this fiesta.
POPOLO | SOUTHBANK
They might be used to a cooler Christmas, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still help us out with Christmas lunch! Forget breakfast this Christmas morning, save room for all those carbs you’re going to be indulging in! Get ready for plates of fresh oysters, porchetta, ravioli and antipasto. It doesn’t hurt that you’ll be stuffing your face with one of the prettiest views of the river, just make sure you let your Christmas dress out beforehand.]
LIBERTINE | PETRIE TERRACE
Who says you have to stick to the traditional this Christmas? Mix it up with French-Vietnamese fare at Libertine, ooh la la! Take a seat in the leafy courtyard and get stuck into one of their famous banquets. It’ll taste even better knowing you won’t be slaving away in the kitchen washing up afterwards!
RIVER QUAY FISH | SOUTHBANK
There’s nothing fishy about Christmas lunch at River Quay Fish! Tuck into share plates of juicy mussels with beurre blanc sauce, grilled Moreton Bay bugs with green papaya salad and coconut tice, and whole market fish with chili caramel and Asian greens. Toast to a stress free Christmas with a couple of bottles of sparkling and you’re set.
IL CENTRO | CBD
Nothing says Christmas like carb loading and with a menu this good you’d have to be a Grinch not to enjoy a feast at Il Centro! Gorge yourself on plates of antipasto, buttery risotto and ravioli and crispy skinned barramundi.
STAMFORD PLAZA | CBD
From the sound of carollers in the lobby to the lavish buffet spread, Stamford Plaza is Christmas incarnate. With traditional roasts, soups, hot and cold dishes and the fresh seafood – you’ll be relieved that Aunty Carol not-so-subtly gave you a Fitness First membership for Christmas.
So eat, drink and be merry – it’s the most wonderful time of the year after all!
