The Tuckshop, a sleek new café located on Gerler Road, is chic and stylish, so if you’re a fan of ironic moustaches and mismatched furniture, then this is not your scene. And the food you’ll find on the menu is a far cry from your typical ‘tuckshop’ fare. No sloppy meat pies, soggy pizza rounders and lukewarm chips here, instead you can tuck into a smart, fresh menu for both breakfast and lunch.
For breakfast, think chia and coconut puddings with berries and almonds, free range eggs on sourdough with cultured butter, fluffy Canadian pancakes or house made granola. If it is a cheeky throwback to your memories of tuckshop fare you’re after, a streaky bacon roll with BBQ sauce might just take you back to Sunday morning junior football games. But for us, it had to be the sautéed Swiss brown mushrooms with chimichurri, served up with melt-in-your-mouth brioche that had us re-evaluating our love of sourdough.
