It’s time to switch on for your weekly fix of foodie gossip! Whether you’re keen to Keep up with the Carb-dashians, be Married at First (Beer) Flight, or enter the court for Fudge Judy (#sorrynotsorry), it’s a big week all ‘round.
Score a front-row seat for Brisbane’s upcoming flavours with the G&G’s Word on the Street. Warning: the first few rows will be fed.
Guess what’s Bacchus, Bacchus again? Yup, it’s Easter – and with our supermarkets crammed to the ceilings with eggs and fruit-filled buns, our cravings meter has hit the red. Luckily, Bacchus has us sorted with The Easter Degustation, running March 22 – April 14 with a seven-course menu based on eggs from the sea and land.
The wind beneath our wings, King of the Wings, is launching their first brick-and-mortar spot! After hunting this famous food truck through the streets of Brisbane, they’re collaborating with The Meter Maids to launch new Surfer’s Paradise bar and restaurant, Meter Maids Bar & Restaurant. Wing it down there later this month!
Raise the roof, Southport! Aviary, the GC’s newest rooftop bar, is about to roost on the top of Mantra at Sharks, the new six-storey hotel at Southport Sharks. Trust us, you’ll want to wing it: with sweeping views of Surfer’s Paradise and its very own indoor cinema (!!!) and event space, Aviary’s looking like one rare bird, indeed.
Keep the party going, ‘cause the GC’s earning two new rooftop bars! Apocalyptic-style bar, Last Night on Earth, is set to welcome guests over two levels of Mad-Max-esque intrigue. From a bottom-level bunker to drinks in the deserted wasteland overturning the rooftop, this one’s got us enthralled – and a little scared. Most importantly, you’ll find 29 beer taps, cocktails, and share plates abounds. Stay tuned for more updates.
Say Hai Hai to Superfly Funkeye! Brisbane’s ramen superstars are opening the laneway bar and eatery this month, set in Woolloongabba’s Eden Lane. Younger sibling to Hai Hai Ramen in owners and in spirit, the modern Asian spot will dish out snapper with fresh wasabi, steamed buns, and Moreton Bay bug rolls.
Brisbane, we have the green light! GC spot Greenhouse Canteen are bringing their famous vegan bites to South Brisbane, with fit-out set to start in April. Fans of the older sibling will spot familiar faces – from jackfruit enchiladas to Thai green curry.
Well, wine not? We’re never opposed to a new bar throwing its doors open – and Paul’s Tavern isn’t far down the line. Spring Hill’s newest wine bar comes from the mind of chef Thierry Galichet, once owner of Brisbane’s Montrachet restaurant.
Feelin’ crabby? Swing by Hamilton! The popular St James Crabhouse & Kitchen is shuffling on to the northside for the launch of its second venue. Bigger goals mean bigger menus, too, with plans for roast suckling pig and weekend barbecues. Drooooool.
Say cheese! We’re positively melting over the news of a specialty jaffle bar opening in Coolangatta. Get all up in Jaffles HQ’s grill from late March as the humble toasty takes the stage.
How now, Crafty Cow? If you’d move into the fast lane for slow-cooked meats, you’ll want to swing by The Crafty Cow later this month. Doors will open on a wood-fired smoker serving up tender, juicy cuts of meat alongside pints of craft beer.
