Situated in leafy Red Hill, Plum Tucker is the type of place likely to make you late for work because you got distracted chatting to the barista (one of whom took out ‘best barista’ in the Golden Fork Awards!) or spent just a little too long enjoying your morning coffee. Open for breakfast and lunch seven days, and dinner Thursday to Saturday, Plum Tucker’s menu has a great selection of creative and dietary conscious meals with a focus on local, seasonal produce.
The kitchen opens from 7am, but sleepyheads are invited to drop by as early as 6am for one of their amazing coffees. Using Wolff Coffee Roasters beans, the café even has their own special blend, called Black Dahlia. If you’ve got some time to spare though, make sure you stay for breakfast, because with eats like house baked corn bread with avocado and their infamous apple pie donut, you won’t be content with just a coffee and a snack. Although their chocolate brownies may just convince you to take half a dozen to work for later.
Wednesday nights at the suburban gem are kept kicking with tacos and trivia while an epic roast dinner is on offer Thursday to Saturday, with lamb rump, pork belly or a cauliflower steak for the vegos matched with plenty of sides.
The venue’s people skills and kitchen talents are seamlessly carried over when it comes to private functions as well. Capable of catering for up to 50 people and with a hidden away room upstairs, you can have a warm, homely celebration or even a Christmas party, without any of the DIY stress attached.
With a set up so charming it looks like it’s stepped straight out of Ellen Page’s Pinterest board, Plum Tucker is one of our local faves and Red Hill’s best not-so-well kept secret. So don’t wait, tuck in and get some plum on your plate.
