Dim sum lights and crank the Barry White, fam: you’re about to fall for food all over again.
Our foodie sense is tingling (it’s like a Spidey Sense, but we decimate burgers instead of supervillains), and we’re following our inner compass north to Sunshine Beach.
Here, you’ll discover Sum Yung Guys, a moreish combo of Sunny Coast light-and-open breathiness, and the bustling vibes of Asia’s hawker stalls. On the pass, MasterChef runner up Matt Sinclair dishes out pan-Asian goodies you’ll fall over your chopsticks for, with flavours melding Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean cuisines.
Ready to wok this way? Step inside to discover crispy triangles of Mooloolaba prawn toast, BBQ lamb shoulder topped in green mango and chilli, and flaky, buttery roti to tear and share among friends.
Flavours like this deserve the tipples to match – something Sinclair’s catered for in spades. Level up with a serve of the HADOUKEN! cocktail, a mix of tequila, mescal, bubbles, lime, agave, and Thai basil, or the Shanghai Social, made with vodka, ginseng, and lime goji berry.
PSA: just Thai and stop us from ordering dessert. With bowls of Vietnamese coffee panna cotta served with salted sesame, that trip up the coast has never looked sweeter.
You’ll find Sum Yung Guys (and a whole lotta flavours) at Shop 8, 46 Duke Street, Sunshine Beach.
