If Chinese always leaves you wonton more, udon know what you’d do without ramen and you’d rather Thai than give up pho, you probably already know that Sunnybank is the place to go for traditional Asian fare.
But with soy much goodness on offer in the suburb, including more restaurants than you could shake a chopstick at, it can be a little overwhelming to choose just one spot to dine at. That’s where Sunnybank Plaza’s Food Discovery Tours come in.
Over three hours, tour guide and experienced chef, Tony Ching, takes small groups of participants on a wok through the best places to eat and shop in Sunnybank Plaza. And before you get Hanoi’d and worry that you won’t be able to eat on the tour, let us tell you that you’ll also get an Asian feast into the bargain.
If you book the lunchtime tour, from 10am to 1.30pm, you’ll get a Yum Cha lunch at the infamous Landmark Restaurant, with dumplings, BBQ meats and Jasmine tea galore. If you book a dinner tour, from 3.30pm to 7pm, you’ll make your way through several pho-nomenal restaurants on a progressive dinner, eating your way through Japanese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese feeds. So you can rest assured you’re bound to walk away feeling like a sumo.
It’s not all about the dining of course (though that’s the best part), you’ll also get loads of hints and tips about how to choose the best produce for cooking at home, advice on key ingredients you’ll need and some insight into Asian culture – including a lesson on how to use chopsticks. You’ll stop by a few Asian supermarkets and even sample some carnivorous Asian delights at the butcher. Plus, every participant gets a bag of goodies to take home to the kitchen.
Tickets to the tours are just $68 per person, with the next tour date June 4, followed by July 16.
