Winter may be here but the foodie scene never cools down on the Gold Coast! So whether you’re a resident who’s shivering your way through the seaside air or a weekender making the most of cheap rates on luxury spa rooms (and total absence of tourists – winning!), warm up by sampling a few of the best culinary feasts the coast has to offer, take two.
Brooklyn Depot | Surfers Paradise
If your plan to stay warm is to get hot and sweaty in the GC nightclubs, then you want to start your night at Brooklyn Depot. Gourmet burgers paired with a side of cocktails are sure to get things off to a delicious start, especially if you decide on the FUHGEDDABOUDIT burger with beef, beef chilli, cheese, onion rings, chilli relish and injection of lethal hot sauce, paired with a strawberry chilli margarita!
Bonita Bonita | Mermaid Beach
We love a little (more like a lot) Mexican food and Bonita Bonita does not disappoint. With deliciously fresh tacos, quesadillas and crispy chorizo croquettes you’ll be hola-ing for more. Better yet, you can wrap your hands around spicy mulled sangria in the winter months. There is plenty of sangria to go round, so drink your fill or there’s craft beer from the likes of Burleigh Brewing and Dos Equis too if that’s more your scene.
The Fish House | Burleigh Heads
If it’s seafood, not the beach, that drives you to the coast, look no further than The Fish House. Take your pick from the likes of pan seared scallops, chargrilled yabbies and crustacean risotto – it will all make braving the cold worthwhile. Just save a little room for dessert: it might not be fishy but apple tarte tatin is the perfect comfort food.
Justin Lane | Burleigh Heads
Cheesus did Justin Lane’s four cheese pizza get us excited! With provolone, gorgonzola, fior di latte and buffalo mozzarella, it’ll have you in such a cheesy dream you’ll need a please do not disturb sign. Unless it’s to order anther piz-za their woodfired delights like the smoked pork belly pizza with pear, provolone and chives, of course. Or, just get it all delivered straight to that toasty spa.
Bumbles Cafe | Surfers Paradise
You know a visit to a cafe will be sweet when they have a menu just for cake. It will be too hard to resist just getting banoffee pie or berry and coconut meringue for breakfast, so just go for it and grab a side of fresh watermelon, apple and mint juice to ease the guilt. Then you can come back for lunch for their famous beef burger with streaky bacon, sharp cheddar, grilled onion and beetroot relish!
Hugo Burger Lounge | Nobby’s Beach
It might not look as comfortable as your own lounge room, but take a seat on Hugo’s bench seats and you’ll soon be tucking into some of the best burgers on the Gold Coast. Heat things up with the Sun’s Cajun burger with free range chicken breast marinated in delicious Cajun spices paired with mayo, mango and pawpaw chutney and a side of crispy Hugo chips.
At this rate, we’ll be choose food over the beach even when summer rolls round! Or it might be us that’s rolling round….
